Delegate Stacey Plaskett’s (D-V.I.) photo was front and center Thursday, above the fold of the front page of the New York Times, the paper of record for the United States. While it is common for members of Congress to appear in national newspapers, it is not common for the nonvoting delegate of the U.S. Virgin Islands to be featured so prominently.

The photo was of Plaskett at the first House of Representatives hearing on a bill to study reparations for the descendants of Africans enslaved in the United States. The bill was first introduced in 1989 but its first hearing was Wednesday.
