Varsity Flag Football and Central JV/MS Volleyball Tournament Preview

The varsity flag football game of the year in the St. Thomas / St. John Interscholastic Athletic Association (IAA) will be played at 4:00 p.m. on Friday at Antilles School between the Ivanna Eudora Kean High School (IEKHS) Rays versus Antilles School Hurricanes.

IEKHS goes into this contest with a perfect (3-0) record with two narrow escapes. After opening the season with a 30-point blowout of the Charlotte Amalie High School Chicken Hawks, Gifft Hill School held the Rays’ offense to only 6 points. However, the Barracudas did not find the end zone and the Rays survived with a 6-0 victory.

In their other game of the season, the Rays hosted Antilles School. The Hurricanes scored early in this contest when quarterback Dillen Webbe connected with Trevor Prince on a 50-yard touchdown catch. The Rays finally evened the score in the third. Then, with under one minute to go in the game, Rays’ quarterback, Julien Maduro, found Guyma Phebe in the end zone for the game-winning score.

“I don’t look forward to this game,” says Francisco Jarvis Ivanna Eudora Kean, Offensive Coach. “Antilles is well coached and they’re going to be coming with their A-plus game. They always do when facing us. The Kean Devil Rays will be ready.”

Antilles School head coach Steve Lewis appreciates the importance of this rivalry and game. “This is the new school rivalry. These two teams go at each other’s neck every game. Every game from last year to now has been decided by a touchdown or less,” he said. Coach Lewis believes this game will be decided in the trenches. “That bolstering OLine for Kean will be the deciding factor in this game on whether they can keep up the blocks on the best DLine in the league.”

This highly anticipated game will be played on Antilles School field at 4:00 p.m. The game is a part of Antilles School Homecoming festivities.
