VI Department of Health Issues Health Warning Related to the Current Rise in COVID-19 Cases

Due to a recent rise in COVID-19 positive cases Territory-wide, Health Commissioner Justa Encarnacion advises Virgin Islanders to continue practicing the recommended COVID-19 safety procedures of handwashing, social distancing, and wearing masks in large crowds, especially when in enclosed environments.

“Our COVID-19 active cases are at 152: 75 on St. Croix, 70 on St. Thomas, seven on St. John, and our territorial positivity rate is now at 5.46%. This Health Warning is being put in place to keep you safe.”, stated Commissioner Encarnacion. “JFL hospital reported one COVID-19 positive inpatient. Our goal is to keep our hospitalizations low and schools open by keeping you healthy,” said Commissioner Encarnacion.

Dr. Hunte- Ceasar also reminds the community that “Every one of us plays a critical role in increasing or decreasing the Territory’s active cases and guides you to get tested if you are symptomatic, report positive home tests for better tracking of cases, and seek access to the antivirals available at our local pharmacies or monoclonal antibodies available at each hospital-based clinic.”

Please call our Epidemiology Hotline at (340) 712-6299 or (340) 776-1519 if you are sick, have tested positive, and need a referral for COVID therapeutics. The VI Department of Health wishes you a safe and Happy Easter.
