VI Scholars Hosting Second Annual Convocation Ceremony August 19

This Sunday, August 19, the VI Scholars Summer Leadership Institute will host its second annual Convocation Ceremony at 2:30 p.m. at the Westin Resort and Villas.

Senator Janette Millin-Young, Chair of the Education, Youth and Culture committee will be delivering the keynote address.

VI Scholars is an organization that works with high school youth to develop them into future Virgin Islands leaders, empowering them to effectuate positive change within their local community.

Each year, as the final event of its free three-week Summer Leadership Institute, VI Scholars hosts a Convocation Ceremony to showcase and celebrate the amazing community impact projects that its students have created to help others throughout the territory.

VI Scholars strives to build a pipeline for leadership within the Virgin Islands that strengthens the territory’s infrastructure, emboldens the importance of education and community, and increases the standard of living for all Virgin Islanders.

By bringing in an array of highly esteemed local leaders to talk to and advise students, VI Scholars exposes youth to powerful, positive mentors, giving them the tools and the inspiration to go out into their own communities and create the change they wish to see.

This past week alone, the VI Scholars free Summer Leadership Institute hosted none other than Senator Shawn-Michael Malone on Monday, Department of Labor Commissioner Albert Bryan, on Tuesday, motivational speaker Sherman Brown on Wednesday, and Congresswoman Donna Christensen on Thursday.

The VI Scholars Summer Leadership Institute is about fostering responsible citizens. It is about empowering youth. It about realizing that without a serious investment in youngsters today, there will be no brighter future for the Virgin Islands.

This year, the VI Scholars Convocation Ceremony is open to the entire VI community. All VI Scholars participants and their families will be in attendance, and all others are cordially invited in order to honor these students’ incredible accomplishments.

RSVP is mandatory and can be done online at vischolars.eventbrite.com.

The event will begin promptly at 2:30 p.m. at the Westin . For additional information call VI Scholars Summer Leadership Institute at 642.3377, or email contact@vischolars.org.
