VIDE State Office of Special Education Begins Federal Grant Application Review Period

The Virgin Islands Department of Education State Office of Special Education has announced the commencement of the review period for the Special Education Federal Fiscal Year (FFY) 2024 Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) Part B Federal Grant Applications. Renee Charleswell, Ph.D., deputy commissioner of curriculum and instruction, notifies the public that copies of the grant applications are now available for public review in both school districts. This review period spans 60 days, running from March 20 through May 20.

Feedback and comments on the grant applications will be accepted for up to 30 days following the close of the public review period. Comments can be submitted to Deputy Commissioner Charleswell via email at renee.charleswell@vide.vi or comments can be dropped off at the State Office of Special Education locations. The state office on St. Thomas is located at the Frostco Building in Altona, while on St. Croix, it is located at the Main Educational Complex on Hospital Street.

Copies of the grant application, inclusive of a tentative state budget, are available for review at various locations throughout the territory. These locations include State and District Offices of Special Education, Offices of the Insular Superintendents, the Offices of the Commissioner of Education in both districts, the University of the Virgin Islands Campuses on St. Thomas and St. Croix, the Charles W. Turnbull Regional Library on St. Thomas, the Florence Williams Public Library on St. Croix and the Julius E. Sprauve School on St. John.

Additionally, a digital copy of the grant application is accessible on the Virgin Islands Department of Education website at www.vide.vi. Visitors to the website can find the application under ‘Our Divisions’ and then ‘Special Education.’
