VIDOH Updates the Public on the Latest COVID-19 Cases

There are 44 active cases of COVID-19 territory-wide, according to the VI Department of Health (VIDOH). There are 38 on St. Croix, 5 on St. Thomas, and 1 case on St. John. There are no hospitalized COVID-19 cases at either Juan F. Luis Hospital on St. Croix or Schneider Regional Medical Center on St. Thomas.

With the COVID-19 numbers low and the mask mandate no longer in existence, Commissioner Encarnacion reminds the community of the need to get the FLU Vaccine as early as possible. Our emergency rooms and doctor’s offices are seeing a high number of flu-like symptoms. Respiratory syncytial virus, also known as RSV, is a respiratory infection typically experienced by children, older adults, and those that are immunocompromised. Respiratory syncytial virus, or RSV, is a common respiratory virus that usually causes mild, cold-like symptoms. Most people recover in a week or two, but RSV can be serious and is the most common cause of bronchiolitis (inflammation of the small airways in the lung) and pneumonia in children younger than one year of age. The commissioner also reminds everyone to wash their hands and use hand sanitizers, especially when in crowded places.
