VIFEMS Responds to Structural Fire at Former Nightclub on St. Thomas

A structural fire occurred Tuesday at a former nightclub on St. Thomas, the Virgin Islands Fire and Emergency Medical Services reported.

The Virgin Islands Fire and Emergency Medical Services responded to a 911 call reporting a structural fire at Trompeter Gade, formerly known as Walter’s Nightclub. Units 101, 207, 46, and crew (Hotel Co.) were dispatched to the scene. Additional teams under the Echo and Tango companies arrived at the scene to provide further support, according to the VIFEMS report.

VIFEMS crews promptly entered after observing smoke from the structure’s downstairs and upstairs sections. Firefighters worked to bring the fire under control within an hour and 30 minutes. Their swift action minimized potential damage and ensured the safety of the residents and surrounding properties, the report stated.

Following established protocols, an investigation to determine the fire’s origin began, and VIFEMS will continue its efforts to verify the circumstances surrounding this incident. A total of 18 personnel were present, and no injuries were reported, authorities said.

“I commend the collaboration and coordination displayed by our VIFEMS squads throughout the incident response,” said Director Daryl A. George. “We will continue to invest vital resources towards our personnel to ensure they have the skills and knowledge to handle any emergency.”
