VINP Recruiting University of the Virgin Islands Students for Positions on St John

The vacancy announcement for three permanent full-time internships at Virgin Islands National Park opened on Thursday, November 8, 2018 on the USAJOBS.GOV website. The National Park Service on St John is recruiting for Visitor Use Assistants (VUA’s) through the Pathways federal internship hiring program.

This federal program allows agencies to recruit from local area students and hire them while they are still enrolled in school. The program is intended to train students for careers in the federal government upon graduation.

These positions will be duty stationed at the Trunk Bay Visitor Contact Station on St John. Visitor Use Assistants hourly rates range from $12.40- $16.11 per hour, and work 40 hours per work (including weekends). The incumbent’s primary duties include collecting, accounting for, and processing facility use fees collected at the Trunk Bay Visitor Contact station.

VUA’s serve as front line, uniformed representatives of the National Park Service, and will be required to contact and interact with hundreds, to thousands, of park users daily.   VUA’s must be able to deal with multiple park users simultaneously, often under stressful conditions, while maintaining a calm and professional demeanor.
