VIPD Gives the All-Clear After Lockhart K-8 School Placed on Lockdown

Lockhart K-8 School on St. Thomas was placed on lockdown Monday morning after a 911 caller said that a student had a loaded weapon. However, after a sweep of the campus, police determined there was no threat, the V.I. Education Department reported.

A lockdown text alert was broadcast just after 11 a.m. on Monday and the all-clear was given about an hour later.

“The incident will be subject to further investigation by the Virgin Islands Police Department to ascertain the details and circumstances surrounding the reported threat,” the press release stated.

In response to the 911 call, “school officials activated safety and security protocols to ensure the well-being of students, faculty, and staff while the VIPD conducted a thorough sweep of the campus,” it said.

“Subsequent to the VIPD’s diligent safety inspection, school authorities received the ‘all clear’ signal, confirming the absence of any threat on the campus. Consequently, Lockhart K-8 School has resumed normal school operations, with assurance that all students, faculty, and staff are secure,” according to the Education Department.
