V.I. Police Department officers on St. John are investigating an armed robbery that occurred at the Love City Mini Mart just after 10:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 11.
The incident was the second armed robbery of a St. John business in less than two weeks. The owner of a Cruz Bay restaurant previously reported being robbed in his office on Halloween night, Oct. 31, by an armed, masked intruder.
In the Coral Bay incident on Nov. 11, the store manager and an employee were closing the business when a suspect dressed in a black hoodie, black ski mask, black shirt, pants and shoes, entered carrying a handgun and demanded money, according to the preliminary police report.
The suspect grabbed an envelope containing approximately $200 and several phone cards before leaving the store, according to the VIPD report.
“It took the police a half hour to respond,” one source told St. John Tradewinds.
“Two armed employees and they were robbed?” another Coral Bay business owner asked incredulously.
On St. Thomas a man walked into the Richard Callwood Command on St. Thomas Tuesday at about 2:15 p.m. and reported he had been robbed, according to a VIPD report
The victim told officers he was walking on Fifth Street when approached by two men, one armed with a handgun. The suspects robbed him of $20 and walked away from the area.
Both cases are being followed up by detectives from the Criminal Investigation Bureau.
