The Virgin Islands Police Department is investigating a series of burglaries that have occurred at several businesses around Frederiksted on Thursday, March 19, within a 24-hour time frame. The suspects were armed males wearing black clothing who fled on foot during these crimes, the VIPD reported.
According to the VIPD, the businesses affected by these burglaries are:
Frontline, Calquohoun
The Landing Beach Bar, Cane Bay
JV Car Wash, Mr. Pleasant
Blue Bambou, Plessen
Off the Wall, Cane Bay
Circle Bar, Cane Bay
Aquaholic Beach Bar, La Grange
Cravers Choice, Upper Love
Milani Customs, Upper Love
In a release, the VIPD encouraged businesses to properly secure their establishments, including increased lighting and installing cameras in the area.
Uston Cornelius, police chief in the St. Croix District, encouraged business owners, “Not to leave money in the business.” Cornelius also asked for the community’s assistance in solving these crimes. “We continue to engage our community and ask, ‘if you know something, say something.’ There are police officers tasked with handling these cases and, in most instances, awaiting small bits of information to close these burglaries. The police department cannot do it alone, and we continue to urge our community to be our eyes and ears.”
