The event includes presentations from reputable professionals who are experts in key markets intended to provide participants with actionable steps to start their wealth-building journey, said Sexius.

Born and raised on St. Thomas, Sexius spent much of his young adulthood trying to build a foundation for his life that would support his dreams of financial freedom. “I knew that an attainable path to financial freedom was through entrepreneurship, but I had no examples to lean on and spent a great deal of time trying to figure it out on my own. I tried a few different ventures and embraced the concept of trial by error. I lost a lot and I failed a lot,” Sexius said.

One of the most pivotal moments in Sexius’ financial freedom journey was in discovering how credit scores dictated interest rates on mortgages and how banks often take advantage of a client’s naivety in order to collect more money. “I tried to purchase my second home in 2018 and got two different interest rates from two different banks. When I went to the bank that was offering a higher interest rate and inquired about the percentage, I was told that my ‘fair’ but not good credit score was the problem, despite the second bank offering a much lower rate. It was then that I realized that banks will take advantage of people who are not well educated,” he said.

“This experience inspired me to learn about interest rates, credit scores, and how the common consumer is at a disadvantage when they go to the table without the necessary knowledge to advocate for themselves. I took countless classes, mentorships, read countless books and then I started to use the techniques that I had learned to propel my credit score into the 800s. I knew that I wanted to use this knowledge to help others. This is how Credible Source Consulting Firm was born,” Sexius added.

One of Sexius’ biggest motivators is his Virgin Islands community. He believes that Virgin Islanders are at a crossroads in where the future of the territory lies and how many Virgin Islanders will be able to keep a foothold in their ancestral lands.

“We have to get smarter with money. We have an opportunity to set up future generations to not struggle as hard as we have had to struggle. We are seeing increased gentrification and displacement as the years progress, and Virgin Islanders need to wake up if they intend to preserve their homes from the influx of people who are moving here every day. This is why I have been avidly pushing financial literacy on my social media pages and why I have put so much effort into hosting the V.I. Wealth Building Gala,” Sexius said.
