Virgin Islands Cross Country Athletes Excel at Mainland Competitions

Rachel Conhoff, Mikaela Smith and Michelle Smith have continued their sterling accomplishments in track and field cross-country competitions on the mainland.

Virgin Islands Track and Field and cross-country team member Rachel Conhoff, a senior at Ursinus College, continued her cross-country season at the Desales Invitational in Center Valley, Penn., on Oct. 8. Conhoff finished 2nd in the 6K race in a field of 203 runners while setting a personal record time in the 6K of 22:53. She was the first Ursinus College runner to cross the finish line, helping her team to a 5th place in the team standings out of 19 teams.

On Oct. 15, Conhoff competed in the Inter-Regional Border Battle in Oberlin, Ohio. she finished 13th out of 282 runners in the 6K race in a personal best time of 22:38. Ursinus College finished 13th out of 32 teams.

Conhoff’s next race will be the Hornet Harrier Invitational in Winchester, Va., on Sept. 24.

Virgin Islands Track and Field and cross-country team member Mikaela Smith, who is using her COVID-19 makeup year to compete one final year for Austin Peay State University, continued her cross-country season at the Brescia Invitational in Owensboro, Ky., on Oct. 7. Smith finished 4th in the 5K race in a field of 103 runners while setting a personal record of 18:57. She was the first Austin Peay runner to cross the finish line, helping her team to a 2nd place in the team standing behind Lindsay Wilson University.

On Oct. 15, Mikaela Smith competed in the Evansville Invitational 5K Cross Country race in Evansville, Ind. Smith finished 3rd overall with a personal record time of 18:48. Austin Peay State University finished 2nd in the team standing behind Southern Indiana University.

Smith’s next race will be the ASUN Conference Championship in Huntsville, Ala., on Oct. 29.

Virgin Islands Track and Field and cross-country team member Michelle Smith, a junior at Montverde Academy High School, competed in the Citrus League Championships in Montverde, Fla., on Oct. 12. She finished 2nd in League with a time of 21:00 in the 5K race. Smith helped Montverde Academy to a 2nd place finish in the team standing behind Bishop Moore H.S.

Smith’s next race will be the FHSAA Regional Championship Meet in Melbourne, Fla., on Oct. 22.
