VITFF Bulletin: Virgin Islanders in the Indoor and Outdoor Track and Field Season

These are updates on Virgin Islands students at the high school and college levels at various Indoor and Outdoor Track and Field meets.

Virgin Islands Track and Field Federation (VITFF) Team member Malique Smith continued his Indoor Track and Field season in Gainesville, Fla., at the 2023 RADD Collegiate Last Chance meet on Feb. 16. Smith placed 2nd in the 400m with a personal record of 48.11.

Virgin Islands Track and Field Team member Michael Dizon-Bumann, a freshman at Cornell University and a graduate of Good Hope Country Day School, opened up his Indoor Track and Field season at the Deneault Invite in Ithaca, N.Y. He finished 4th in his heat and 8th overall in the 800m with a time of 2:00.58.

The Virgin Islands Track and Field Federation hosted the Cypriani Phillip Agricultural Fair Track Meet on Feb. 18 at the St. Croix Educational Complex track.

Faith Eatmon, St. Croix Track Club, finished 1st in the U17 400m (1:05.78); 2nd place was Safiya Prasad (1:06.11), St. Croix Track Club; 3rd place was Aminah Prasad (1:07.30), St. Croix Track Club. Eatmon also won the U17 girls’ 200m (28.41) and Aminah Prasad won the U17 girls’ 800m (2:47.35).

Vedant Mittal (1st), Nicholas Baptiste (2nd) and Juvante Hurst (3rd)

In the boys U17 400m Vedant Mittal (1:00.92), Jolly Roger Track Club, finished 1st; Nicholas Baptiste, St. Croix Track Club, finished 2nd (1:01.11); Juvante Hurst, St. Croix Track Club, in 3rd (1:01.33). Vedant also won the U17 boys 200m (26.22), and Juvante placed first in the U17 boys 100m (12.76).

Nathan Langley

Nathan Langley, Jolly Rogers Track Club, finished 1st in the Men’s Open 200m (24.35) and 400m (55.89).

J’Neolise Green

J’Neolise Green from the St. Croix Track Club won both the Women’s Open 100m 13.37 and 200m 27.32.

Denzel Huggins placed first in the Men’s Open 100m (12.00).

The Interscholastic Track and Field series will continue on St. Croix with the championship for middle school and high school athletes on Feb. 23 and the championship for elementary athletes on Feb. 24, at the St. Croix Educational track.

Sofia Swindell, a sophomore at Lawrenceville School, competed in the Garden State Invitational on Feb. 17 Sofia finished 2nd in the 200m with a personal record and school record of 25.24. Sophia also ran a personal record of 8.40 in the prelims of the 55m hurdles placing 2nd and advancing to the final. In the final, Sophia finished 1st in the 55mH with another personal record of 8.35. Sofia also helped her school to a first-place finish in the 4*400m relay. The team set a new school record with a time of 3:55.85, breaking an 18-year-old record.
