As the territory experiences the effects of Tropical Storm Karen currently affecting the Virgin Islands, the Virgin Islands Waste Management Authority (VIWMA) Preserving Paradise Partners issues the following advisories:
• VIWMA Offices and Solid Waste facilities will remain closed today
• Residents are asked to hold their solid waste until the storm has passed and the facilities have been reopened
• The wastewater collection system will be surcharged due to inclement weather; residents are advised to avoid ponding water near manholes and exercise caution while driving or walking in flooded areas.
VIWMA Staff
• Staff are designated as essential and are instructed to follow the directions of their supervisors regarding their emergency work schedules.
