As gusty winds and rain continue across the territory, the Virgin Islands Water and Power Authority is responding to ongoing wind-related outages, according to Karl Knight, WAPA’s chief executive officer. Knight added that the authority’s crews are out with the goal of restoring electricity as soon as possible, as conditions allow.
As of 8 a.m. Tuesday, he said, larger feeder outages were restored, with pocket outages remaining, with the exception of Feeder 7A on St. Thomas, which was separately de-energized Monday night. Knight said his team is looking into the cause. Still out are portions of 8B on St. Thomas, from Drake’s Seat to Peterborg, along with portions of other feeders.
Knight said that only one school – Eulalie Rivera – was out on St. Croix, while a handful of St. Thomas-St. John’s public schools experienced delays due to power loss.
Meanwhile, are no generation outages on either island at this time, he said, though St. Croix experienced a brief generation outage Monday night, which has since been resolved.
