Webinar on Human Trafficking in U.S. Virgin Islands Set for January 26

Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault Council

On Wednesday, Jan. 26, in observation of Human Trafficking Awareness Month, the Virgin Islands Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault Council (DVSAC) will host a free online webinar entitled “Human Trafficking in the U. S. Virgin Islands” from 10 a.m. until noon via Zoom (Meeting ID: 864 4141 1866).

Jacqueline Heyliger, the executive director of the Virgin Islands Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault Council, said, “DVSAC wants to bring awareness to this unspoken, horrific topic to the forefront of our community.” Heyliger asserted that the webinar will focus on the occurrences of human trafficking in the territory and the exploitation of vulnerable human beings.

DVSAC’s mission is to coordinate education, prevention and response efforts in order to reduce the incidence of domestic violence, sexual assault, stalking and dating violence and to make these crimes socially and culturally unacceptable in the USVI.  DVSAC provides training and prevention activities throughout the territory.
