Woman Uses Employer’s Credit Card to Pay Personal Bills

A St. Croix woman has been arrested and charged for using her employer’s credit card to pay personal bills, the V.I. Police Department reported Saturday.

On Nov. 11, 2022, the VIPD began an investigation on Jahreema Barnes due to several complaints filed against her by TBKC, LLC, according to the police report.

Their investigation revealed that in one incident, while Barnes was employed as a manager at the business, she knowingly and intentionally used one of the business owner’s Pentagon Federal Credit Union Visa credit cards without authorization on two separate occasions. The amount totaled $1,023, which was used to pay her Water and Power Authority and AT&T bills, the police report stated.

An arrest warrant was obtained for Barnes and on Thursday, the United States Customs and Border Protection office alerted VIPD that Barnes was present at the Henry E. Rohlsen Airport, attempting to board a flight to Florida. Officers were dispatched to the airport and Barnes was served the arrest warrant, advised of her Miranda Rights, and placed under arrest without incident, the report stated.

39-year-old Barnes was transported to the Police Operation Building, where she was subsequently booked and charged with fraudulent use of a credit card, obtaining money by false pretenses, grand larceny, and access to computers for fraudulent purposes, the police said.
