Update: Woman Wanted for Shooting Incident on St. Croix in Custody

Valatina Sanchez, who was wanted as a suspect in a shooting on St. Croix Jan. 31, is now in police custody, the V.I. Police Department reported Wednesday.

On Wednesday, the 911 Emergency Call Center received a call stating that Sanchez requested to turn herself in. Officers made contact with Sanchez in the vicinity of Estate Princess. She was detained and declined to give a statement, according to the police report.

Sanchez was arrested for attempted murder in the first degree, assault in the first degree, reckless endangerment in the first degree, aiming and discharging, and carrying of firearms open or concealed, the report stated.

Unable to post bail in the amount of $100,000, Sanchez was remanded to the John Bell Correctional Facility pending her advice of rights hearing at the Superior Court set for Thursday, police said.

Jan. 31, 3:35 p.m.

A woman is wanted on St. Croix for a shooting incident that occurred near Queste Verde Wednesday, the V.I. Police Department reported.

At 8:50 a.m., the 911 Emergency Call Center received several calls regarding a male gunshot victim in the roadway near Queste Verde. The victim was transported for medical treatment at the Juan F. Luis Hospital and is in critical but stable condition, according to the police report.

The suspect in this shooting incident is 30-year-old Valatina Sanchez, a Hispanic female.
She is described as 5’4” in height, about 160 pounds, and has black hair, brown eyes and a light complexion. She was last seen wearing khaki knee-length pants and a dark-colored shirt with a red or maroon handbag. She frequents Williams Delight and Estate Tamarind, the police report stated. 

This case is still under investigation.
