Plaskett Headed To London

Congressional Delegate Stacey Plaskett is scheduled to be in London this week for a conference on racial equality and to co-host a fundraiser with New York Representative Hakeem Jeffries.

Plaskett, Jeffries — the House Democratic Chair — and two UK counterparts will speak at the Transatlantic Roundtable: Black Equity, Wealth Creation, and Inequality Risk on Thursday. The discussion will cover the role of government in solving historical black inequity, aiding in creating education and business opportunities to reverse historical injustices.

British Parliament members David Lammy of Tottenham and Chi Onwurah of Newcastle upon Tyne Central will join the discussion. Keith Magee, a professor at University College London, will moderate the event.

It is a free live stream. It starts Thursday at 2 P.M. UK time — which is 10 A.M. in the Virgin Islands.

The fundraiser is Thursday evening at Central London’s St. Pancras Renaissance Hotel. Guests can contribute between $100 and $10,800 to the Jeffries Plaskett Victory Fund, a joint fundraising committee for the two Democrats’ primary and general election races.

It’s the second international trip in as many months for Plaskett, who has been raising her international exposure. She was recently in the Middle East with colleagues from the House Homeland Security Committee to check on conditions for Afghan refugees and the soldiers processing them.

On Saturday, Plaskett tweeted a sharp rebuke of FOX News broadcaster Tucker Carlson, calling him out for supporting Russian President Vladimir Putin. She called Carlson a “useful idiot” for the Russian leader amassing troops near Ukraine.
