Agriculture Urges WIC Recipients to Use Farmers’ Market Nutrition Coupons Before Nov 30

WIC food

The USVI WIC Farmers Market Nutrition Program (FMNP) will end on Nov. 30; therefore, Commissioner of Agriculture Carlos Robles urges all WIC recipients to use their coupons by that date.

The WIC FMNP was established by Congress in 1992 to provide fresh, unprepared, locally grown fruits and vegetables to WIC participants, and to expand the awareness, use of and sales at farmers’ markets in the U.S. Virgin Islands. Women, infants (over 4 months old) and children who have been certified to receive WIC program benefits may purchase a variety of fresh, nutritious, unprepared, locally grown fruits, vegetables and herbs with their FMNP coupons.

The purchases must be from certified farmers/vendors who display a sign by Nov. 30 indicating that “WIC Coupons Accepted.”
