ALERT: LBJ Pump Station Temporarily Off-Line; Sewage Overflowing

The LBJ Pump Station went off-line due to mechanical failure of the auxiliary diesel pump Thursday morning, causing an overflowing manhole in the Christiansted area.

In a news release Friday, the Virgin Islands Waste Management Authority advises the community that on Thursday.

The authority said its staff is working to place a spare pump into service.

The authority residents with compromised immune systems to avoid standing water in the vicinity of No. 1 King Cross and Queen Streets. Motorists are advised to use an alternate route around this potentially impacted area.

Updates on changes that may affect public health and the environment will be provided, WMA said.
