The Department of Licensing and Consumer Affairs (DLCA) urges all individuals and entities that are operating or intend to operate a business in the U.S. Virgin Islands to obtain proper licensure to do so.
The law requires every person, entity or association wishing to engage in business within the territory to apply for and obtain a business license from the Department of Licensing and Consumer Affairs before soliciting or engaging in any business, occupation, profession or trade.
Festival is coming and, as such, entertainers, disc jockeys, promoters and any other pop-up business ventures are encouraged to become properly licensed.
The Department of Licensing and Consumer Affairs has conducted town halls and virtual forums as well as issued press releases and verbal warnings to “educate before regulating” potential business owners on the requirements to obtain a business license. The DLCA will issue citations to individuals and entities who willfully fail or refuse to comply with the provisions of the DLCA statute. An unlicensed business may receive a citation not to exceed $500 and imprisonment not to exceed 30 days, or both.

Individuals and entities engaged in a business without a business license are urged to immediately visit the department’s website at www.dlca.vi.gov to apply for a business license.
