Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Announces Scholarship Awards

Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Inc. Sigma Theta Omega Chapter has announced its 2022 Gertrude Lockhart Melchior Scholarship Awards.

“This year we were excited to be able to provide scholarship awards to all six applicants. The applicants were all outstanding, with bright and promising futures. Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority’s mission of service to all mankind remains true,” said Julice Holder, chapter president.

In order to assist as many students as possible, three scholarships were awarded in addition to three book scholarships, she said.

The recipients are as follows:
Tashani Williams, Gifft Hill School, $1,500.
Kaj Gerard, Charlotte Amalie High School, $1,000.
Rohan Nagi, V.I. Montessori School, $1,000.
Saidah Sekou, Charlotte Amalie High School, $500.
Anju Sujanani, Charlotte Amalie High School, $500.
Anjahlique Bowry, All Saints Cathedral School, $500.

Gertrude Melchior was a local businesswoman and entrepreneur. She attended Howard University and in 1944, she became a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Inc. while studying there.
