St. Thomas Shooting Victim, 17, Dies of Injuries

 

A teenager shot Thursday night in Sugar Estate on St. Thomas has died of his injuries, turning the case into a homicide investigation, the V.I. Police Department reported Monday night.

Janyi Barry, 17, died Sunday at Schneider Regional Medical Center, where he was being treated for multiple gunshot wounds, police said.

A second victim suffered a leg wound and remains in stable condition, the report stated.

The shooting occurred around 9:37 p.m. Thursday, when a caller reported to 911 that several shots were fired on 7th Street in Sugar Estate, Charlotte Amalie. Officers were dispatched to the scene where they discovered two people with gunshot wounds, police said.

Both were transported by ambulance to the hospital.

Barry’s death is the 16th homicide in the territory this year, and the sixth on St. Thomas, according to the Source Homicide List.* There have been 10 on St. Croix.
