2023 Month of the Military Child (MOMC) “Purple up” Event for Military Kids, April 14, 2023

  1. April is designated as the Month of the Military Child (MOMC) and a time to honor the sacrifices made by military families worldwide. This celebration includes an emphasis the experience of dependent children of military servicemembers serving at home and overseas.

The Month of the Military Child is sponsored by the Department of Defense, Military Community and Family Policy, and supported by many other organizations.

  1. “Purple Up for Military Kids” is a day for the nation, as well as the Virgin Islands territory, to wear purple to support and thank military children and youths. Wearing purple within the VING on Friday, April 14, is a visible way to show support and thank our military children and youths for their strength, sacrifice and resilience. Celebrating the Month of the Military Child provides a powerful opportunity to raise awareness in the Virgin Islands and build support to help these children and youths overcome the unique challenges they face.
  2. Purple indicates that all branches of the military are supported: Air Force blue, Army green, Navy blue, Marine red, and Coast Guard blue — all thought to combine together as a single color: purple. The goal of “Purple Up!” is for military youths to see the support in their schools, local government and the community “Purple Up” will involve schools, sports teams, youth organizations, clubs, after-school programs, fraternal organizations, social clubs, coworkers and members of VING.
