Arrest Made in the Taste of Margarita Bar and Restaurant Robbery

A St. Croix man was arrested Monday for his role in the robbery of the Taste of Margarita Bar and Restaurant on May 21, police say.

The police contacted George John Jr., 19, of St. Croix, who was off island, that a warrant was out for his arrest, at which point he returned to St. Croix and turned himself in to police at the Wilbur Francis Command, where he was charged, booked, and remanded to the John Bell Correctional Facility.

On May 21, John Jr. was seen on a business surveillance system parked in his white sedan outside the Taste of Margarita Bar and Restaurant and then entering the restaurant. While inside, he was seen entering the restroom, and after he exited the restroom, he approached the bar, and shortly after, he left,” said CIB Chief Detective Lt. Naomi Joseph. Chief Detective Joseph further stated, “John Jr. was also seen entering his vehicle, driving out of the lot, and parking on the side street across from the restaurant, where three men are seen exiting his vehicle and running across the street and into the restaurant where they proceeded to rob the business at gunpoint.”

John Jr. has been charged with robbery, carrying and using dangerous weapons, and petit larceny. Bail was set at $75,000.
