Director Barbara Jackson McIntosh informs drivers that due to the extension of the Stay-at-Home order issued by Gov. Albert Bryan Jr., the Bureau of Motor Vehicles (BMV) will be serving customers by appointment only. As Bryan has extended the “Stay at Home” phase in an effort to mitigate the spread of coronavirus, the BMV has implemented the following protocols:
- The bureau will be serving customers by appointments only. Director Jackson McIntosh is requesting that customers do not come to the bureau until their appointment time. Customers will receive a reminder via text 30 minutes prior to their appointment and two minutes before they are required to come into the offices.
- All driver’s licenses and identification card services have resumed; customers must make an appointment online at www.bmv.vi.gov.
- Jackson McIntosh is encouraging the motoring public to take advantage of the bureau’s online vehicle registration process. During this period, the bureau will waive the requirement for inspection for any customers that renew their vehicle registration online. If customers need assistance in setting up an account or for technical assistance, please email the bureau at info@bmv.vi.gov. Customers are reminded to contact their insurance agency to email proof of insurance to the bureau at insurance@bmv.vi.gov.
- Inspections will continue to be waived for all private vehicles that are registered online until Dec. 31, 2020. Regardless of the age of the vehicle, all vehicles can be registered online using the BMV E-Servicing system. Commercial vehicles must contact the bureau to make an appointment for inspection.
- All road tests and written tests for the learner’s permit are canceled until further notice.
- All driver’s licenses and identification cards that expire as of March 2020 will be extended for a period of six months from the expiration date.
