Department of Health Announces V.I.’s 15th COVID-19 Fatality

The Virgin Islands Department of Health on Monday confirmed the territory’s 15th death related to COVID-19. The deceased is a 49-year-old male from St. Thomas, the department said in a news release.

The territory’s previous four deaths related to coronavirus were all residents of the Queen Louise Home for the Aged on St. Thomas. An outbreak of the disease sent 12 Queen Louise residents to Schneider Regional Medical Center, and four of them succumbed to the illness.

In its Monday news release announcing the latest death, the department said it continues to work with other agencies to slow the spread of COVID-19.

“You should continue to follow these precautionary measures,” DOH said. “Stay at home, practice social distancing, wear a mask when in the company of others outside of those in your household, clean frequently and wash your hands often with soap and warm water.”

Residents can report a suspected case of COVID-19 by calling 340-712-6299 or 340-776-1519. The department also said medical emergencies can be reported to 911.
