Christiansted Man Arrested for Involuntary Manslaughter

A St. Croix man was arrested and charged Tuesday with involuntary manslaughter and negligent homicide, police say.

Kai A. Jackson, 45, was served an arrest warrant Tuesday and charged with involuntary manslaughter, negligent homicide by means of a vehicle, and reckless endangerment.

On July 7, 2021, police were dispatched to investigate a two-automobile collision that occurred on Orange Grove Road Southbound Lane in the vicinity of the old St. Dunstan’s Episcopal School.

Upon arrival at the scene, the officers observed both vehicles in a head-on collision in the southbound lane. The operators of the vehicles involved in the crash were both males. One was later identified as Sito Martin, who was operating a red 2000 Suzuki Vitara; the second driver was identified as Jackson, driving a black 2018 Ford F-150 Truck.

The preliminary investigation reveals that the Red Suzuki Vitara was traveling southbound while the Black Ford Pickup truck was traveling northbound. The evidence further indicates that the vehicles collided head-on in the southbound lane.

The ER physician at the Juan F. Luis Hospital stated that Martin, 35, succumbed to the injuries sustained to the body from the accident and was pronounced dead.

Bail for Jackson was set at $50,000, and Jackson posted the 10 percent on his bail and was released, pending his advice of rights hearing.
