The recipients are Ma’at Oshuji (Charlotte Amalie high school), Christina John (Charlotte Amalie high school), D’Kai Blake (STT/STJ Seventh-Day Adventist School), Carlos Alexander (St. Croix Educational Complex), Je’Raya Pickering (Charlotte Amalie High School), Latanya McDowall (Charlotte Amalie High School), Jamyka Smith (Charlotte Amalie High School), Tashani Williams (Gifft Hill School), Albert Lluberes (Charlotte Amalie High School), and Ka’them Bazar (Charlotte Amalie High School).

Based on their academic and leadership abilities, these 10 high school students were selected from over 300 applicants. To be eligible for the award, the students had to write a brief essay describing why they believe they are deserving of it.

As of 2021, the McClafferty Family Foundation has granted $150,000 to help deserving Virgin Islands students pursue their higher education goals at a university, technical institution, or public service academy in the years 2021-2022.

The Community and Police Association aids in bringing awareness to social issues while also giving back to the community and making a difference by being positive role models and keeping youth on the right path.

“For over two decades, the McClafferty Family Foundation has undertaken amazing philanthropic initiatives, but none of those initiatives are as satisfying as helping smart, driven, and dedicated young individuals pursue their dreams. We believe that investing in children pays the best interest, and working with C.A.P.A. to have real community impact has meant the world to us,” said Brett M. McClafferty, the managing director of the McClafferty Family Foundation.
