District Court of V.I. Rotates to Chief Judge Robert A. Molloy

Effective Tuesday, April 27, the Honorable Robert A. Molloy will assume the position of Chief Judge of the District Court of the Virgin Islands in accordance with federal law, which requires that the incumbent of the chief judge position of each federal court change every seven years.

Judge Molloy, who is the resident District Judge in the St. Thomas/St. John Division of the Court succeeds the Honorable Wilma A. Lewis, who has served as chief judge since Aug. 16, 2013.

Judge Lewis will continue to serve as the resident District Judge in the St. Croix Division of the Court.

Judge Molloy transitioned from the bench of the Superior Court of the Virgin Islands to the bench of the District Court of the Virgin Islands exactly one year ago, assuming the position of district judge. As it relates to his new assignment as chief judge, Judge Molloy said, “I look forward to taking on this new role as we continue the path laid by the Honorable Wilma A. Lewis and the other chief judges who preceded me. I am excited about working with the team at the district court as we strive to be one of the highest performing federal courts in the United States.”
