Havana Nights Fundraiser for Project Promise a Success

Held at Estate Whim Museum on St. Croix, the theme for the fundraiser was “The Culture & Arts of Cuba!”

This was the seventh year in a row for this successful and engaging event to support the Project Promise programs, both the flagship program, The Caterpillar Project and the newest program Empower Me.

Over 250 people found themselves immersed in Cuban music, authentic Cuban food, a cigar-rolling demonstration and Salsa dancing. Overhead lights among the trees complimented the perfect night as attendees chatted, mingled, danced and enjoyed the atmosphere of “Havana Nights.”

Salsa Dance lessons were provided by St. Croix Ballroom and Latin Dance Studio, co-owned by Grinch Hilaire and Jennifer Janson. Volunteers learned basic steps and were enjoying themselves to music in a few minutes.

This year’s Excellence & Leadership Awards were presented to St. Croix Central High School senior Philbert Scotland, St. Croix Career & Technical Education Center senior Keijhenae Petersen, and St. Croix Educational Complex senior Lebron James.
