Helena Jacobs Simmonds Dies at 90

Helena Jacobs Simmonds

Helena Jacobs Simmonds, also known as “Lena,” of Estate Strawberry, Christiansted, died on July 10. She was 90 years old.

She is survived by her daughters: Marilyn Jacobs, Riorita Jacobs, Althea Jacobs, Erna Eddy, Valdenia Jacobs, Auralie Jacobs and Hyacinth Phipps; adopted daughters: Claudette Walwyn and Margaret Dorsett; sons: Myron Jacobs and Raven Jacobs; and grandchildren: Dave Wesselhoft, Darron Wesselhoft, Dennis Wesselhoft, Dexter Jacobs, Marva Williams, Derrick Jacobs, Decoda Jacobs, Dale Peets, Dameon Jacobs, Kevin Fahie, Denesha Simmonds, Moesha Eddy, Tasia Eddy, Kira Eddy, Devon Jacobs, Joval Jacobs, Sage Jacobs, Darren Jacobs, Anya Jacobs, A’Shanique Prince, Shamika Bridgewater, Imani Phipps, Zeshawn France and Rhoyhan Hall.

She is also survived by great-grandchildren: Mya, Dequan, Devaughna, Kimba, Kennesy, Elvira, Dylan, Chrysa, Lilina, Kehlani, De’Nya, Faythe, De’Von, Raeshaun, Kadyn, Nykeem, Amiyah, Akeem, Jr., Ahmani, Akimo, Devonte, Averi, Andrea, Joseph, Dajahnique, A’Danny, Ajahnique, Shaniqua, Blessing, Angelina and Malaika; great-great-grandchildren: Audrey Caines and G’vaughnsia Bridgewater; godchild, Alphonso Thompson; and sisters: Lorna Buchanan, Ernestine Herbert, Alicent Richards, Emelda Richards and Venetta Herbert.

Other survivors include brother, Royden Richards; daughter-in-law, Judy Jacobs; son-in-law, Walter Eddy; sisters-in-law: Helena Webbe and Perline Richards; numerous nieces and great nieces, nephews and great nephews and cousins to include: Alex “Butchy” Sutton and family(NJ), Clarke family (SKB), Buchanan family (SKB) and Richards family (SKB); friends and special friends to include: Pastor Walwyn and members of Grace Baptist Central, Sheila Gumbs, Pamela Bolan and family, and Samuel Joseph; as well as other relatives and friends.

A viewing will be held at 9 a.m. followed by funeral services at 10 a.m., Friday, Aug. 4, at the Grace Baptist Church, Central, Estate Mount Pleasant, Frederiksted. Interment will be at the Kingshill Cemetery.
