On Dec. 16, the University of the Virgin Islands Association of Black Journalists received its first Christmas donation from its youngest donor, Kohl Sealey. The association received wonderful feedback from the community regarding the organizations first Thanksgiving Community Outreach to the Family Resource Center of St. Thomas.

As a result, UVIABJ decided to do a Christmas giveaway for families with young children on St. Croix. Kalyna Nielsen, the University of the Virgin Islands Association of Black Journalists’ director of special affairs, contacted Chris Sealey, Kohl’s father, who is an alum, about donating a few toys his son was giving away for the holidays. Sealey said, “We emphasize sharing is caring and showing love to others. Naturally, Kohl has a big heart.”

Sealey and his 3-year-old son excitedly decided to help the journalist organization to spread the Christmas joy to well-deserving families during the holiday season. Kohl said, “Yes, Dada I want to give my toys to the boys and girls. I want to help.”

Nikiyah Gerson, treasurer of the organization, met with Sealey on St. Croix to collect the donations. Gerson said, “It was a pleasure receiving the gifts from Chris and UVIABJ’s very own little Santa, Kohl. I hope this gesture of kindness is able to bring a smile on a child’s face this season.”

The association’s advisor, Dr. Sharon Albert-Honore, said “Kohl is the personification of selflessness and the true holiday spirit.”

The University of the Virgin Islands Association of Black Journalists gives special thanks to Chris and Kohl Sealey, executive board member Nikiyah Gerson and Derrick C Honore Sr. for their donations.
