Labor to Host Town Halls for Employers on New Payroll Variation Experience Rating System

Virgin Islands Department of Labor

Labor Commissioner Gary Molloy informs the public that in preparation for the New Payroll Variation Experience Rating System that goes live in 2024, the V.I. Department of Labor (Labor) will host town hall meetings for employers throughout the territory.

The payroll variation is an unemployment insurance tax system that seeks to provide adequate funds for the Virgin Islands Unemployment Trust Fund. This new tax system will provide sufficient funding for paying benefits to unemployed Virgin Islanders. It is imperative that all employers attend these meetings because all employers are affected by the unemployment insurance tax rates.

Employer tax rates may increase, decrease or remain the same upon implementation of this new tax system. The town hall meetings will provide an opportunity for employers to question the department’s staff regarding these changes.

Below is the schedule for the upcoming town hall meetings. All meetings will take place from 6-8 p.m.
