Man Charged in Aug. 22 Watergut Shooting

 

Detectives of the V.I. Police Department Criminal Investigation Bureau and officers of the Special Operations Bureau on Wednesday arrested 32-year-old Curtis Williams of no fixed address, charging him with wounding a man in a shooting Aug. 22 in the Watergut area of Christiansted on St. Croix.

According to the police, Williams was arrested at 3:19 p.m. Wednesday’s on a warrant charging him with attempted murder, unauthorized possession of a firearm and unauthorized possession of ammunition.

Williams is accused of shooting an adult male near the Watergut Shanty on August 22, causing life-threatening injuries. He was remanded to the custody of the Bureau of Corrections after failing to post $250,000 bond, pending his advice of rights hearing.

At 8:51 p.m. Aug. 22, officers were dispatched to Watergut – in the vicinity of the shanty – where a male victim was discovered suffering from multiple gunshot wounds about the body. The victim, transported to the Gov. Juan F. Luis Hospital where he was treated for his injury.

The victim reported having a verbal dispute with an unknown short, Black male with dreadlocks when the suspect drew a firearm and shot the victim; fleeing the area afterwards.
