Melvin Emanuel Armstrong, also known as “Melo,” died on Thursday, Jan. 25, at Providence Hospital in Milford, Texas.
He is survived by his sons: George (aka Bonga), Alton, Neal, David and Romel Armstrong; daughters: Elise Armstrong Menvies, and Sharon and Leila Armstrong; adopted daughters: Carol Gerard, Carmen Clarke and Reba Essanason; daughters-in-law: Nora, Naldine and Priscilla Armstrong; brother, Henry “Hank” Armstrong; and sisters: Helen Schjang, Medeliene Christian, Morlene Lockhart and Grace Armstrong.
He is also survived by uncles: Lester, Halvor, Heraldo and Lloyd Henry; aunts: Ingledue Henry and Joan Nielsen; brothers-in-law: Michael Schjang and Raymond Lockhart; and nieces: Leah Christian, Resa Lockhart, Okema Rose, Kimba Parajes, Felicia and Monique Armstrong, Simolia and Kadisha Jarvis, Renee Hewitt, Ricoya Williams, Desiree Wright and J’nee Armstrong.
Other survivors include nephews: Kareem Jarvis, Dave, Henry and Albert Schjang, Omar Jr., Roderick, Tony, Osrich, Duane and Douglas Armstrong, Raymond Lockhart Jr., Carlos Jr. and Wayne Christian; special friends: Judge Harold Willocks, Rubio and Ruby Essanason, Bobby James, Wayne Harvey, Mario Golden, Emanuel Crawford aka Big Man, Dan James, Rudolph Myers (aka Blues), and Magician and Crusaders Club members; as well as numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and many other relatives and friends too numerous to mention.
A memorial service will be held at 9 a.m., Friday, March 1, at Freidensthal Moravian Church, Christiansted. His final resting place will be at sea on March 2, at the Christiansted Boardwalk.
