Money Raised at Friends Beach-to-Beach Power Swim Will Help Fund Park Projects

Swimmers race to the finish line of the third annual Friends Beach-to-Beach Power Swim at Hawksnest Bay beach on Sunday, May 28.

A record 138 swimmers participated in the third annual Friends Beach-to-Beach Power Swim, helping to raise money to fund projects and programs that preserve and protect the natural and cultural resources of Virgin Islands National Park.

Fifteen-year-old Annie Myrvang from St. Croix was the overall winner with a time of one hour eighteen minutes and 7 seconds (1:18:07). Jack Leavitt, also from St. Croix, followed in second place with a time of one hour twenty minutes forty-seven seconds (1:20:47); and third place was Timothy Fitzpatrick from Vienna, Virginia, with a time of one hour twenty-one minutes forty-nine seconds (1:21:49).

“Both weather and water conditions were perfect for our event today,” said Karen Brady, Friends’ development director, “and we are ecstatic with the turnout for the race today.”

The course highlights two of Virgin Islands National ParkÂ’s most special features, the waters and beaches located on the north shore of St. John.
