Mongoose Junction’s ‘First Friday’ to Feature Great Deals, Lively Performances on May 4

Mongoose Junction will hold its final ‘First Friday’ event of the season on Friday, May 4. In addition to great deals offered by Mongoose’s shops and restaurants, the shopping destination’s beautiful courtyards will come alive with performances and classes by the Macislyn Bamboula Dance Company. Come learn this important cultural style of dance in the courtyard outside North Shore Deli from 5-5:45 p.m. Drumming and dance performances will take place in the courtyard as well as Mongoose’s main entrance courtyard from 5-8:30 p.m.

Deals and activities at this fun, family-friendly event will include:

The Gri Gri Project at Bajo El Sol Gallery in Mongoose Junction, St. John, will be hosting the opening of their “re·new·al” exhibition, a follow-up to last month’s “Aftermath” show. It will explore the renewal that nature and society undergo in the aftermath of two Category 5 storms. Featured artists will include woodturner Avelino Samuel, painter and quilter Karen Samuel, mixed media artist Aimee Trayser, painter Kat Sowa and painter Angela Warren.

Ocean Grill will offer fantastic dessert specials.

Caravan Gallery will offer a free larimar or St. John opal charm with purchase of $40 or more in honor of Mongoose Junction’s 40th anniversary. Larimar is the gemstone of the Caribbean, and the St. John opal is available only at Caravan Gallery. These unique charms can be added to most hooking bracelets or to necklaces for a bit of local color.

Bamboula will offer 20 percent off new Asha women’s dresses and men’s shirts from Ghana.

Vibe will offer a free petroglyph charm with any purchase.

St. John Scoops will be doing free face-painting for kids from 6-8 p.m.

Friends of the Park store will debut two new products: reef safe Stream2Sea sunscreen and beach tents.

Little Switzerland will reopen for the first time since Hurricane Irma.

The Tap Room will host a meet-and-greet with Virgin Islands gubernatorial candidate Allie Petrus from 5-6:30 p.m. Complimentary hors d’oeuvres will be served.

Come out on Friday, May 4, to close out the high season with a bang at Mongoose Junction, then stick around for dinner at one of the shopping destination’s excellent restaurants.
