Property Tax Division Rescinds 2006 Property Tax Bills

The Government of the Virgin Islands has been directed by the District Court to rescind all 2006 property tax bills; therefore, all property owners are advised to withhold payments of their 2006 property tax bills until further notice.

The Attorney General is presently seeking to clarify issues raised in the District Court’s ruling and the Division of Property Tax will continue to inform property owners as more information becomes available.

Property owners should continue to pay their outstanding property tax bills for 2005 and prior years and take advantage of the property tax amnesty which ends on September 30, 2008.

Property owners should also be aware that while the court’s ruling directs the rescission of the 2006 bills, they should continue to make provisions for the eventual payment of these taxes once the legal issues are resolved.
