Providencia Morales

It is with deep sadness that we announce that our queen, Providencia Morales, gained her angel wings on Nov. 24, peacefully at her daughter and son-in-law’s home in Hinesville, Ga. She was affectionately known as “Judy” and “Auntie Judy” to many and “Buela” to family.

She was born on St. Thomas to the late Marion Araminta Normil and Esubio Morales.

She leaves behind four beautiful daughters and one bonus daughter: Roslyn Hodge-Smith, Dr. Shekema Hodge Ph.D., Te’Wanna Hodge, U-necia Hurdle-Lockhart (Quentin Lockhart, son-in-law) and Natasha Cepeda (niece); bonus son, Leroy O. Smith (son-in-law); one surviving sister, Berenice George-Francis; and one bonus sister/friend, Margarita “Maggie” Falero.

She was very blessed to spend time with her grandchildren: Lorenzo Yancy, Reymoi Jno-Lewis (Alexis Jno-Lewis, granddaughter-in-law) Te’Jada Providencia Morales Smith, Javier Gumbs (Brittni Gumbs, granddaughter-in-law), Jayden and Camille Chambers, Nubian and Royale Lloyd, and Amore Lockhart; and seven great-grandchildren: Jordan. Jaymya, Esmerelda (Leah) Londyn, Javier Jr., and Briere and Brooklynn Gumbs.

She was also survived by extended grand and great-grandchildren: Shabri Smith, Stefon Lockhart, Jamil, Promise and Zoli Dickson; and nieces and nephews: Michael, Rudolph Jr. and Patricia Milligan, Bernell, Rema and Justin Rawlins, Jamel, Ninette, Avery (great nephew) Hansen, Alesia Francis, Maria (Elvis, nephew-in=law) Simon, Rashina Kirnon (great niece) and Raheem Simon (great nephew).

Other survivors include special friends: Joseph and Gloria Lambert, David and Claire Dowers, Ava Brathwaite, Ada Riviera, Novena Isaac and Silvia Son, Federica W. Graneau (Ricky), Valari Anderson, Cleo Hodge (father of two of her children); bonus nieces/goddaughters: Claudina Brown and Clarice O’Brien; as well as many other relatives a-6nd friends too numerous to mention.

The first viewing will be held from 4 – 6 p.m., Friday, Dec. 8, at Turnbull’s Funeral Home.

The second viewing will be held from 9–10 a.m., Saturday, Dec. 9, followed by a Home Going Service from 10 –11 a.m.

Church of Christ Estate Hoffman. Internment will be at Western Cemetery No. 1.
