Letter to the Editor:
That I associated the idea of a tourist trap with my plan for The St. John School on Gifft Hill was randomthough it tells of my expectation that the schools grounds and atmosphere be positively enjoyable: for the year-round community as well as for the folks who visit St. John.
Indeed, this goal, properly stated, is desirable on an island like ours: what the students develop and maintain will be a delightful destination. This, then, supports the schools primary objective of providing enlightened college preparatory instruction while evolving beautiful gardens, a dynamic student-run marketplace and an overall community center. The compelling thing is that its popularity will literally educate kids.
