Skinny Legs Restaurant in Coral Bay laid out the red carpet, transforming the casual eatery into a gala ball on Saturday evening, September 9, for the First Annual Golden Bowline Awards.

A huge crowd, with ladies decked out in ball gowns and men sporting tuxedo t-shirts, packed the restaurant for one of the biggest nights of the off-season.

Organized by Sara O’Neill and Mollie Keuten and emceed by Damara Merten, awards were handed out for a variety of both humorous and flattering categories.

From “Prettiest Boat,” which went to Robin Claire Pitts’ Liberty, to “Pirate of the Caribbean,” which Pirate Bill happily took home, the categories kept the crowd in stitches.

Other notable winners included Skinny Legs owner Moe Chabuz as “Best Boss,” Charlie Ashby as “Most Congenial Cook,” Kenny Quinn for “Best Laugh” and Bob Davis as “Most Eligible Bachelor.”

The Mighty Groover, Chester Brady, along with his Quelbe in Motion Band, kept the crowd dancing throughout the night as a number of people sipped the featured champagne cocktail of the evening, the “bowlatini.”

“I thought the night was fantastic,” said Keuten. “We didn’t really know what to expect, but a lot of people came out and everyone really embraced the spirit of the night.”

“There is not much going on this time of year, and I think this perked everyone’s mood up and gave everyone something to do,” she added.

Huge Ball Gown Turnot
“I was thrilled with the ball gown turnout and The Mighty Groover couldn’t have been better —  everyone danced from the very first song,” agreed O’Neill. “A lot of people came out who you don’t normally see."
