A St. Croix man was arrested at the Henry E. Rohlsen airport Friday after an arrest warrant had been issued, the V.I. Police Department reported.
During June and July of 2021, an investigation was executed on Jvante Edwards after two separate complaints involving harassment of his ex-girlfriend, according to the police report.
The investigation revealed that due to a break-up between Edwards and his ex-girlfriend, he became obsessive and harassed her, her family members, and her male friend on multiple occasions. Edwards also made calls to the University of the Virgin Islands, where his ex-girlfriend was attending an Enrichment Program, and said he was going to shoot up the university, which caused the university to declare a shelter in place, close the school and relocate the students that were also attending that Enrichment Program. Following the incident, an arrest warrant was issued for Edwards but he was not in the territory, the report stated.
On Friday, the United States Customs and Border Protection contacted the local National Crime Information Center in reference to Edwards leaving the island of St. Croix and an arrest warrant was executed at the Henry E. Rohlsen airport, where Edwards, 21, was placed under arrest without incident. Edwards was charged with harassment by telephone, telegraph, or written communication and cyber-stalking and cyber-harassment. Bail was set at $1,000.00 for the alleged incident. Unable to post bail, Edwards was remanded to the John A. Bell Adult Correctional Facility pending an advice of rights hearing scheduled for Monday, the police said.
