Shania Shervington, age 35 of Estate Whim, was arrested at 8:15 p.m., Monday, by officers of the COVID-19 Enforcement Task Force, and charged her with uploading faked COVID-19 test results, the V.I. Police Department reported.
Shervington was charged with fraudulent claims upon the government, access to a computer for fraudulent purposes, use of false information and filing or recording forged instruments.
Shervington was arrested for submitting an altered negative COVID-19 test result to the USVI Travel Portal. Her bail was set at $5,500. She was released on her own recognizance, pending her advice of rights hearing.
In the Government House weekly news update on April 5, Gov. Albert Bryan Jr. reported that the government was cracking down on the uploading of fraudulent COVID test results to the travel portal. At that time, two people had been arrested on such charges, the governor said. He reminded residents that uploading a fake test is a felony punishable with fines and possible jail time.
