Support the Arts and Make a Date

Bachelor-Bachelorette Auction Is Feb. 10

Spirited bidders at last year’s auction were all smiles during the fun and very entertaining event.

Singles and couples should mark their calendars — one of the most exciting nights of the year is fast approaching.

The St. John School of the Arts’ (SJSA) “Let’s Make a Date,” bachelor and bachelorette auction, the school’s only fund raiser of the year, is on Saturday evening, February 10, at the Westin Resort and Villas starting at 6 p.m.

Cheryl Boynes-Jackson and Ronnie Klingsberg will emcee the fun-filled night, the proceeds from which will fund student scholarships.

Rodney Varlack Back
A number of Love City’s most eligible bachelors and bachelorettes are already on board to strut their stuff and raise money for the school including the top-dollar date from last year Rodney Varlack.

Other dates up for auction are James Watts from the Westin, John Young from Asolare and Lois Simmons from the Gifft Hill School.
A new bachelor on the block this year is Julian Gargiulo, the renowned pianist who will be performing at SJSA on Feb. 8.

“Julian is so wonderful, we’re excited to have him back playing at the school again this year,” said SJSA’s director of ciriculum development Kim Wild. “We’re so excited that he is going to stick around for a few days and be a part of our Bachelor-Bachelorette Auction.”

Backstage Passes To Broadway
In addition to the chance to purchase the winning bid for an exciting date with a bachelor or bachelorette, hotel stays and travel packages are available.

A trip to New York City, complete with air fare, hotel stay and top Broadway tickets with backstage passes, is just one of the enticing travel packages available.

Another exciting prize can be found right here on St. John — a 60-second shopping spree at Starfish Market.

Shopping Spree
“We got this idea from the days when you saw the television shows like ‘Shop Till You Drop,’” said SJSA executive director Jan Kinder. “We’re so happy that Starfish agreed with the idea. It will be a 60-second shopping spree where the cart must keep moving the whole time and it will not include beer or wine.”

Other prizes include car rentals, sunset sails and even a two-night stay for two at the Sand Castle Hotel on Jost van Dyke.
While a live auction will be going on most of the evening, silent auction items will also be available for bid.

The lure of the island’s most eligible bachelors and bachelorettes should entice the singles to stop by, and the chance for a romantic weekend for two should be enough to assure couples that the night is worth their time.

Support Arts Education
For anyone who needs another excuse to come out and join the fun — do it for the kids.

“This is our only fund raiser and the proceeds from this event enable students who normally would miss out on arts educations to be able to attend programs and classes at the school,” said Kinder.

All the excitment kicks off at 6 p.m. with the “Mix and Mingle,” the chance for the audience to check out the packages and bachelors and bachelorettes. A cash bar and hors d’oeuvres will be available starting at 6:30 p.m. and the auction will begin at 7:30 p.m.

Tickets, $20 in advance and $25 at the door, are on sale at both Connections locations and both Chelsea Drug Store locations. For more information call SJSA at 776-6777.
