Suspect in Aureo Diaz Double Homicide Extradited to St. Croix

After two years on the run, Justine Nisbett, a suspect in a double homicide, was apprehended in November and extradited to St. Croix Friday, the V.I. Police Department reported.

On April 19, 2021, at around 7:46 p.m., the 911 Emergency Call Center reported calls about multiple shots fired in the Aureo Diaz Housing Community. Police arrived on the scene to find four individuals injured, including Michael Ramos, 33, and Juan Velasquez, 38; both men were transported to the Juan F. Luis Hospital but later died from their injuries, according to the police report.

After the homicide occurred, detectives executed an operation in Aureo Diaz and arrested Luis Rivera, Jameel Williams, Guillermo Rivera and Gilberto Rivera. A warrant for Nisbett’s arrest yielded negative results and Nisbett stayed on the run for over two years, the report stated.

Acting on information received, the U.S. Marshal Taskforce apprehended Nisbett without incident in Henry County, Georgia on Nov. 27, and he subsequently signed a waiver of extradition and was returned to St. Croix on Friday without incident. Upon arrival on the island, he was processed, booked, and transported to the John Bell Correctional Facility pending his advice of rights hearing scheduled for Monday, police said.
