The territory has recorded its 126th death from COVID-19 — a 93-year-old man on St. Croix — the Health Department reported Wednesday afternoon while extending its condolences to his family and friends.
As of Tuesday, the latest figures available, the department reported 17 new cases, bringing the territory’s total to 87, with 55 of those on St. Croix, 32 on St. Thomas, and none on St. John. The median age among cases is 36 years, it said.
While the safety protocols introduced at the start of the pandemic are no longer mandatory, the Health Department has urged residents to continue to follow precautionary measures such as practicing social distancing around those outside of your household, wearing a mask in crowded public areas, washing your hands often with soap and warm water, and cleaning frequently used areas thoroughly.
Such measures have worked to slow the spread of the disease, as well as getting vaccinated and boosted, the department noted.
