Months after the roundabout project contract officially closed, this utility pole has remained in the center of the circle.
A subcontractor hired by Innovative has been hard at work pulling the cables, and the pole should finally be removed within two to three weeks, according to Department of Public Works Materials Program Manager Thomas Jones.
Innovative has been too busy dealing with outages caused during Hurricane Earl and Tropical Storm Otto to address the utility pole.
“They just realized they had too much work, so they brought this contractor in to pull all the cables,” said Jones.
DPW buried all the cables in the area during construction of the roundabout, and left plenty of room for expansion, Jones added.
“We expanded the telephone and cable, and we put fiber optics in,” he said. “It’s a major upgrade.”
